According to the developments that hit the Spanish agenda like a bombshell, Begoña Gomez, who is facing many accusations and therefore a precautionary measure was placed on her passport by the court, pressed the button to relax the travel ban.
Requested Permission for Ankara Summit and Graduation Ceremony
According to the news in the Spanish press, Gomez, who made an official application to the court through her lawyers, stated that she wanted to accompany her husband, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, at the NATO Ankara Summit, which will be held between 7-10 July. Gomez’s other reason for requesting the trip was her desire to be present at her daughter’s graduation ceremony in London. It was reminded that, in accordance with the diplomatic protocol, the spouses of the heads of state and government attending the NATO Summit have the status of official guests.
A First in Spanish History
Begoña Gomez, who faced accusations of “exercising her influence”, “corruption in the business world”, “embezzlement” and “abuse of power”, became the first prime minister’s wife in the history of Spain to have her passport confiscated.
Gomez had to surrender his passport to the court on June 24, after Judge Juan Carlos Peinado issued an interim injunction on the grounds of “suspicion of escape”. The Spanish public is eagerly awaiting whether Gomez, who last went on a trip to China with her husband two months ago, will be able to attend the summit in Ankara in line with the court’s decision.
