At least six people were killed when two helicopters crashed after a mid-air collision in the Brazilian metropolis of Rio de Janeiro on Sunday. One of the fatalities is Oliver Tree, as “O tempo” writes, citing the police.
Appearance planned in Zurich
The 32-year-old gained notoriety as an internet personality and singer-songwriter and would have performed at Zurich’s ” Complex ” in September. The Argentinian YouTuber Gaspi, whose full name is Gaspar Prim, was also in the helicopter and died in the crash.
Countless fans and even the first celebrities have spoken out on Instagram to commemorate the musician. “I can’t believe it… you were unique and will be missed very much,” writes Dutch DJ Oliver Heldens.
According to the fire department, after the collision, the two helicopters crashed into the parking lot of the electric car dealer BYD, where “at least 20 vehicles” caught fire. “At least six fatalities have been confirmed, all of them were crew members,” the fire department said.
The accident reportedly occurred in the western suburb of Recreio dos Bandeirantes. Images from local television stations showed a thick cloud of black smoke over the car dealership and vehicles in flames.
There have recently been several accidents involving small aircraft in Brazil. Just in May, a small plane crashed into a residential building in Belo Horizonte. At that time three people were killed.
