The Health, education and universities unions in Venezuela agreed this Thursday to carry out a national strike of activities starting monday November 16as a measure of protest against the labor crisis faced by these sectors.
The decision was approved unanimously during a interguild assembly held in the auditorium of the Faculty of Humanities and Education of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), where union representatives analyzed working conditions.
The call includes the participation of health professionals, basic and secondary education teachers, as well as university professors and administrative workers. They will temporarily suspend their activities to demand answers to their demands.
Among the main demands are the salary and infrastructure improvements. The unions plan to announce the details of the strike before November 16 and call on other public administration workers to join the protest.
José Gregorio Afonsopresident of the Association of Professors of the Central University of Venezuela (Apucv), explained that the decision was made due to the lack of response to the document delivered on October 3 to the interim government.
“I think that the government has to address the labor issue once and for all. It cannot simply be addressing the other issues. It has an enormous external debt in economic matters, it has a significant debt in what it expropriated from businessmen, but The most important debt is the social debt owed to the workers, who are the ones who generate value for society.“said Alfonso.
Also expressed solidarity with the workers of the Venezuelan Corporation of Guayana (CVG) that have 15 days on vigil and more than 130 hours on hunger strike.
