A targeted police operation in Tobago on Thursday resulted in the seizure of an illegal firearm, ammunition, narcotics and cash, with two people arrested in connection with the find.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, officers conducted the intelligence-led exercise at a property along Golden Grove Road, Canaan, as part of Operation Resolute Shield.
Police said the team, led by PC Yorke, searched an apartment where they discovered a Glock 22 Austria .40 calibre pistol bearing the serial number 301076FC and marked “Fulton County, GA Police.”
Officers also seized a 9mm pistol magazine containing 15 rounds of ammunition believed to be 9mm rounds, a .40 calibre magazine loaded with five rounds of .40 calibre ammunition and an additional 15 rounds of .40 calibre ammunition.
The search also uncovered a quantity of suspected narcotics. Police reported finding five packages of compressed cannabis weighing approximately 2.612 kilogrammes, two packets of cannabis weighing about 45 grammes and two packages containing an estimated 38 grammes of cocaine.
Investigators also recovered an electronic scale, two Trinidad and Tobago passports and a National Identification Card.
A quantity of cash was seized during the operation, including TT$1,867 and US$700.
Police arrested a 30-year-old geriatric nurse of Golden Grove Road, Canaan, and a 29-year-old man of the same address. They remain in police custody as investigations continue.
The operation was strategically directed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Singh and Senior Superintendent Kirk. It was coordinated by Assistant Superintendent Bacchus, Inspector Mohammed and Warrant Officer Acting Sergeant Gordon-Harris.
The exercise was supervised by Sergeant Hernandez and Warrant Officer Corporal Alfred and carried out by officers of the Tobago Divisional Task Force and the Gang Investigations Unit.
Police said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to target illegal firearms, narcotics trafficking and other serious criminal activity across Tobago. Investigations are continuing.
