French President Emmanuel announced MacronToday, Thursday, an oil tanker linked to…Russia Off the coast of Sicily this week, in the latest operation of its kind aimed at confronting the “stealth fleet” that Moscow uses to circumvent sanctions.

Macron said on the X platform: “On Tuesday, the French Navy boarded the oil tanker Deliveroo as it was passing off the coast of Sicily in violation of maritime law.”
The French maritime authorities stated that “the ship flying the Cameroonian flag was boarded and sailed from the Russian port of Primorsk overlooking the Baltic Sea, due to doubts about the authenticity of the flag it was flying.”
She added that the French Navy is accompanying the tanker to a docking location for further examinations.

Macron said that the ship “Deliver” is linked to the Russian so-called “stealth fleet” that is used to circumvent Western sanctions imposed following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
These ships frequently change their flags or use invalid registrations in an attempt to evade tracking.
The French President stressed, “We will not allow the stealth fleet to circumvent sanctions and finance the Russian war effort.”
Since September, France has intercepted four more ships believed to belong to Russia’s unofficial fleet.
Several Western countries imposed sanctions on hundreds of ships suspected of belonging to the “Ghost Fleet,” with European Union sanctions targeting about 600 ships.
He described Russian President Vladimir Putin Detaining these ships is considered “piracy.”
