Nine foreign nationals of Jewish nationality, including eight citizens of the United States and one Canadian, unlawfully entered the grounds of the former German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. The suspects admitted to the charges against them and voluntarily accepted the penalty.
The incident took place on Monday, April 20, shortly after 3:00 p.m. The men were apprehended by museum guards and then handed over to the police. The tourists had previously been informed that they were not allowed to enter the museum grounds without valid tickets; however, they pulled back the fencing and entered the area of the former concentration camp.
The fine agreed with the prosecutor’s office amounts to 3,000 PLN for each of the perpetrators. Additionally, they are required to pay 1,000 PLN each in compensation to the museum.
