Kazakhstan’s ruling Omonat party has announced a merger with the pro-presidential Adolat party. The merger took place on the eve of the parliamentary elections, which will be held after the new constitution comes into force.

Deputy Unzila Shapak said that the decision to unite the parties is related to the need to “put the interests of the nation above political differences”. According to him, this step is to “increase the capacity of political forces that serve the interests of society and the state.” wrote Reuters.

The merger is taking place during the reform of Kazakhstan’s political system. In March, the country adopted a new constitution. He reduced the number of parliamentary chambers from two to one, reduced the number of deputies and restored the position of vice president.

According to the new constitution, the parliament will cease its powers from July 1. President Kasim-Jo’mart Tokayev should announce the election date within a month, and the process will be held within two months after the constitution comes into force. Kasim-Jo’mart Tokayev’s mandate ends in 2029.

After extensive constitutional reforms, in early June of this year, a new political party “Adolat” was established in Kazakhstan. established was The party went through all the necessary procedures in record time. Aibek Dadebay, the former head of the Administration of the President of Kazakhstan, was elected as the chairman of the party.

The Omonat party (formerly Nur-Otan) has been in power in the country since 1999 and was founded under the leadership of then-president Nursultan Nazarbayev, who ruled Kazakhstan from 1991 to 2019.

The new “Adolat” party is fully loyal to Tokayev, whom Nazarbayev chose as his successor in 2019, and its leadership includes the closest aides of the president.
