Centre Party leader Antti Kaikkonen and the Finns Party’s Riikka Purra shared second place, while Prime Minister Petteri Orpo trailed in fourth.
A survey commissioned by Maaseudun Tulevaisuus suggests that Social Democratic Party leader Antti Lindtman is the public’s preferred choice to become Finland’s next prime minister among the current leaders of parliamentary parties.
Lindtman attracted the support of 17 percent of respondents.
Second place was shared by Centre Party chair Antti Kaikkonen and Finns Party leader Riikka Purra, each drawing 11 percent.
Prime Minister Petteri Orpo of the National Coalition Party secured 9 percent support for another term in office.
The Greens’ Sofia Virta and the Left Alliance’s Minja Koskela each received 7 percent.
Harry Harkimo of Movement Now was favoured by 4 percent of respondents, while Anders Adlercreutz of the Swedish People’s Party and Sari Essayah of the Christian Democrats both polled 3 percent.
Notably, 13 percent of respondents said that none of the leaders of Finland’s parliamentary parties would make the best prime minister, while 15 percent were unable to express a preference.
The survey was conducted by Kantar Agri and polled around 1,000 people in late May. The margin of error for the full sample is approximately three percentage points in either direction.
