A man died and two other people were injured this Wednesday after a vehicle fell into the Northern Waters canal, near the Béjaoua road, after the Manouba university complex.
According to the regional civil protection directorate, agents intervened around eight a.m., immediately after being alerted of the accident. The vehicle, which was carrying three people, skidded before ending up in the canal.
Emergency services managed to extract the two passengers who were still alive, who were transported to hospital to receive the necessary treatment. The lifeless body of an adult man was recovered from the canal.
Civil protection teams also extracted the vehicle using specialized equipment.
Initial investigations indicate that the accident was due to a loss of control by the driver after the vehicle skidded, which led to its fall into the canal and the drowning of one of the occupants.
The Manouba public prosecutor’s office carried out the usual findings and ordered the transfer of the body to forensic medicine in Tunis.
