Egypt welcomed US President Donald Trump’s announcement to cancel the military strikes that were scheduled to be carried out against Iran on Thursday evening.
In a statement to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs today, it expressed its aspiration to seize the available opportunity to reach an agreement on various outstanding issues and to create the atmosphere to reach an end to the war and begin a new phase of regional stability based on settling the remaining conflicts in the region and the world through peaceful means and dialogue away from military solutions.
The statement stressed that Egypt will continue its persistent, serious and sincere efforts, in coordination and cooperation with regional and international partners, in order to reduce escalation and uphold the values of dialogue in preparation for reaching an agreement that addresses the concerns of all parties.
The statement reiterated Egypt’s emphasis on the need to take into account the security concerns of the countries of the region, especially the sister Arab Gulf countries, especially with regard to their security and sovereignty and non-interference in their internal affairs. Egypt also renewed its condemnation of any targeting or harming the security of the Gulf countries because of its close connection to the national security of Egypt, the region and the world.
