The Ecuadorian under-17 soccer team will have to postpone the dream of being crowned champion of the South American category after losing 3-1 to Argentina in the semifinals.
The national team, in any case, secured its place for the World Cup of the category that will be held next November, in Qatar.
The only goal for the Tricolor was scored by winger Hólger Quintero, from the penalty spot, in the 62nd minute, after an infraction committed against him.
That goal meant the partial 1-1 after the conquest of Facundo Salinas at 10 minutes. After Ecuador’s tie, Juan Cruz, at 80 minutes, and Emiliano Barrionuevo, at 87, sentenced the fate of the national team.
Ecuador will face Brazil for third place in the international competition organized by Conmebol, next Sunday.
