Slobodna Dalmacija – Kia presented the Vision Meta Turismo concept at Design Week, redefining the Grand Tourer for the digital age

Kia Corporation presented all the details of its Vision Meta Turismo concept car at Milan Design Week. The event marked the global premiere of the Kia Vision Meta Turismo concept, following its first unveiling in Korea last year, where it was unveiled in December in honor of the brand’s 80th anniversary.

The Vision Meta Turismo concept embodies Kia’s futuristic vision of an advanced approach to mobility. The design combines dynamic driving performance with a saloon-inspired interior, paying homage to the speed and elegance of long-distance travel in the 1960s. Vision Meta Turismo heralds a significant change in the user experience, combining advanced technology and an engaging emotional experience.

What are the key features of the Vision Meta Turismo concept car?

The design philosophy brings together unexpected pairs to reveal new perspectives; interactions that occur through tension, harmony and dynamics. Embodying these values, Vision Meta Turismo is a contemporary reinterpretation of three key experiences – high-performance driving, comprehensive digital interaction, and lounge-like space and comfort.

How does Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design ethos shape the Vision Meta Turismo concept?

Kia’s design philosophy, ‘Opposites United’, is evident in the concept design, where soft surfaces meet technical geometry. The concept’s extreme forward cabin architecture underpins an advanced, elegant silhouette with a low and wide profile dressed in a ‘soft geometric’ surface language.

Faceted surfaces with soft transitions create strong, constant cores – visible when light falls on the bodywork – emphasizing the balance between delicate sculpture and technical precision for a futuristic aesthetic that feels precisely machined and naturally fluid. This is a clear embodiment of Kia’s “Opposites United” design philosophy, where seemingly contradictory elements come together to create a transformative new design paradigm.

What are the overall design features of the Kia Vision Meta Turismo?

The low-slung front of the concept emphasizes its cabin-forward architecture, with a cut-off lower section that features a black technical insert, housing the car’s futuristic functional elements, while highlighting its floating aesthetic and high-performance character.

The rear of the car transitions from soft, flowing curves to a sharp, shortened tail with a sharp trailing edge designed to improve aerodynamic efficiency and high-speed stability. The focal point is an ultra-slim LED light signature. A horizontal light blade wraps around the rear corners, emphasizing its visual width and emphasizing the car’s low center of gravity.

The geometric lines of the concept extend upward into the wide glass roof. Through the geometric glass shapes, the internal spatial frame is visible, composed of thin structural elements that convey strength and lightness.

What other elements inspired the design of the Vision Meta Turismo?

Kia’s designers drew inspiration from jet aircraft. A wing-like protrusion attached to the aircraft in front of the main wing inspires the shape of the structure, which contains technical elements such as the upper front light and the rear camera.

The lower blacked-out area at the front houses the technical features, including the lights and cameras, and emphasizes the X-configuration light graphics while further enhancing the impression of a floating body.

How does the interior of Vision Meta Turismo evoke a new age of mobility?

Inside, the design introduces a paradigm shift in user experience through advanced digital technology, creating a highly immersive experience for driver and passenger through unique and innovative design elements and a spacious layout. The Vision Meta Turismo concept also offers two different seating and space arrangements for the driver and front passenger.

The driver’s seat and space of the Vision Meta Turismo concept are designed for focused and functional immersion; purpose-built to enable deep concentration behind the wheel and deliver next-generation driving attributes. The Vision Meta Turismo concept passenger seat uses the same shape and mesh materials as the driver’s seat to maintain visual harmony, but is structurally different to provide a more relaxed and emotional experience.

How does the Vision Meta Turismo deliver a dynamic and visceral driving experience?

The Vision Meta Turismo’s interior design introduces additional layers of excitement to electric vehicle driving through a series of analog controllers that use digital technologies to provide haptic feedback and physical simulation. As additional features, selected controllers can be seamlessly integrated into the minimalist central structure within the cockpit and, when activated, provide instant access to their functions.

How did the steering wheel of the Vision Meta Turismo concept car develop?

Inspired by gaming controllers, the concept features a new interpretation of the steering wheel that embodies Kia’s vision of the next generation of intuitive interfaces, combining modern sophistication and technical precision. The steering wheel serves as a central interface through which users can interact with three different digital experience modes: Speedster, Dreamer and Gamer – individual modes that enhance the user experience depending on the environment and driving scenario.
