CORONIE — Tackling drug use among young people, the secondment policy within the police force, stray cattle and noise pollution in the residential environment were important points of attention during the visit of Chief of Police Melvin Pinas to Coronie. The visit took place on Saturday as part of the ‘Kon Mit KC’ initiative.
During a meeting with district commissioner Eric Boldewijn, views were exchanged about improving police services to the community of Coronie. During discussions with residents, noise pollution was reported, mainly caused by young people riding through the streets on their mopeds. The driving behavior of some moped riders, who regularly drive at high speed, was also raised as a point of concern.
Pinas has indicated that the points raised are being taken seriously and that, in collaboration with the regional police commander (GPC) and the district commander, it will be investigated what appropriate measures can be taken to tackle noise pollution and the irresponsible driving behavior of moped riders.
With the ‘Kon Mit KC’ initiative, the chief of police wants to strengthen direct communication with society, listen to the concerns of citizens and work together towards a safer living environment. The chief of police was accompanied during this visit by the GPC, Jeffrie van Cooten, and the district commander of Coronie, Bikharie.
