PARAMARIBO — BM, who works at the Security and Assistance Service Suriname (BBS), was robbed of his mobile phone on Wednesday. Shortly afterwards, the Kwatta police managed to arrest 21-year-old EJ with the device in his possession. He was arrested after consultation with the Public Prosecution Service. His companion is still on the run.
The 34-year-old BBS member had his smartphone via Facebook Marketplace offered. An interested party then made an appointment to view the device at the seller’s home address.
At the agreed time, two men arrived in a car. When BM showed the phone, he was violently pushed over by the other man, after which both men ran to the vehicle with the phone and drove away at high speed. The BBS man fired a few warning shots with his service weapon, but the perpetrators managed to escape.
BM then managed to find out the exact location of his stolen phone via iCloud and immediately passed this information on to the police. Law enforcement immediately responded to the designated location and found EJ with the phone. He was immediately arrested and taken to the police station. The mobile phone has been confiscated.
