Dr Friday pushes ahead with CBI despite warnings

DESPITE the many warning signs pointing to the demise of Citizenship by Investment programmes, not just in the Caribbean but in other parts of the world, Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday says he is not backing away from St. Vincent and the Grenadines establishing its own programme. During a break in the ongoing court matter on the legal challenge to his electoral eligibility, Dr. Godwin Friday was asked whether the EU’s writing to five Eastern Caribbean countries on the issue affect his plans to introduce the program in SVG.

The Prime Minister responded saying “…it’s a matter that we have to take notice of and we will design our program taking those things into account.”

The New Democratic Party had campaigned in opposition that one of their pillars for economic revival would be the establishment of a Citizenship by Investment Programme, while the then Unity Labour Party government had argued that the sale of passports was similar to the selling of the island’s patrimony.
