THE Democratic Republic of Congo lost to Chile 2-1this Tuesday, in the last preparatory game before their debut at the 2026 World Cup, where they will have Portugal as their first opponent. The formation led by Sébastien Desabre takes the field against the quinas team in the next June 17th, at 6pm.
The match was disputed behind closed doors in Franceafter the Spanish authorities canceled the match initially scheduled for La Línea de la Concepción, claiming health concerns related to the Ebola outbreak in DR Congo. The Congolese federation looked for an alternative to guarantee the preparation test before the start of the competition.
After a balanced first half, Chile took the lead 52 minutesincreasing the advantage towards the end, at 86′through Matías Sepúlveda. The Congolese response only came to 88 minuteswhen Joris Kayembeformer player for Portuguese clubs such as FC Porto, Rio Ave and Arouca, reduced the deficit, after assistance from Brian Cipengafootballer who played for teams such as Famalicão, Vilaverdense and Paços de Ferreira.
Chile, which did not qualify for the 2026 World Cupended their series of preparation games in this way, after having lost last Saturday by 2-1 against Portugal, at the Estádio Nacional do Jamor. DR Congo now remains focused on the clash with the national team, in what will be the the Congolese’s first commitment in Group K of the World Cup.
