Fars Agency quoted a member of the media team of the Iranian negotiating team as saying that Tehran has not yet sent its response to the latest draft from America, stressing at the same time that his country will not enter into an agreement in which Lebanon is ignored.
He stressed that the talks are still ongoing and no final decision has been taken, pointing out that the reason behind the failure of the first phase of the Islamabad talks is Iran’s refusal to enter into nuclear negotiations.
He also stressed that if the drafting of the memorandum of understanding between America and Iran is completed and agreed upon, it will go through a 4-stage mechanism.
On the other hand, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that his country’s forces are “launching defensive strikes on sites that America is allowed to use to attack civilian ships and violate the ceasefire.”
Araqchi added: “We will respond to any hostile action against us immediately and decisively,” noting that “what sanctions and war were unable to achieve will not be achieved by more war.”
In the same context, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said, “The time of threatening Iran without cost has ended, and any aggression will face a decisive and proportionate response.”
This comes in the wake of renewed hostilities in the Gulf region, where Iranian attacks on Kuwait damaged its international airport, killing one resident and wounding dozens. American forces carried out air strikes near the Strait of Hormuz, while diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran witnessed little progress.
The US Army announced today that “two Iranian missiles launched towards Kuwait did not hit their target or crash during their flight, and that US and Bahraini forces intercepted three missiles launched towards Bahrain.”
The US Central Command indicated that “Iran launched ballistic missiles towards neighboring countries, but they did not hit their targets, and that US forces launched raids on Qeshm Island in response to Iran’s offensive attempts, and were able to shoot down a number of Iranian ballistic missiles and drones.”
For its part, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced that “the American enemy targeted our communications tower on Qeshm Island, and we responded by targeting an American base in the region,” saying: “We targeted the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet with missiles and drones in response to the attack on Qeshm Island.”
US President Donald Trump said, on Wednesday, in a media interview, that the situation regarding Iran is developing rapidly and will be very good, noting that Iran has agreed not to possess a nuclear weapon.
He added that Iranian Leader Mojtaba Khamenei “is participating in the negotiations with us, and they say that the Iranian Supreme Leader gives his approval in the talks,” stressing by saying: “I may meet with the Iranian Supreme Leader at some point.”
