Kottayam ∙ Under the leadership of the municipal health department, stale food and banned plastic products were seized in the hotels of the city. The inspection was conducted in 22 hotels. Stale food was seized from 9 of them. Days-old rice, noodles, beef, chicken curry, fish curry, alfam, kohmanti etc. were found. The inspection revealed that the food which had changed in smell and color was reheated and distributed along with fresh food. The municipal health department imposed fines and issued notices against these 9 institutions. Municipal Health Department Clean City Manager TA Thangam and health inspectors Praveen, Pramod, Surjit, Linish, Ramya, Vismaya and Hima led the inspection.
Food poisoning: License of shops suspended
Kottayam / Kumarakam ∙ So far, 15 people have suffered from food poisoning from the talaka at Parip Tollairamchira Tollushop. It was revealed that more people were poisoned during the investigation focusing on the people who ate the head vegetable that caused the food poisoning. Among them, Jins (35), Jithin (31) from Manarkad, Akhil (30) from Arpukara, and 2 from Vadavathur also ate head vegetables from the shop on Saturday. He returned to the hospital on Sunday due to health problems. The Police, Excise and Food Safety Departments started an investigation after PS Jyotish, a native of Kumarakam, died of food poisoning.

6 people who were under treatment after eating head soup with Jyotish left the hospital yesterday. 3 residents of the shop had food poisoning but did not seek treatment as they did not have any serious problems. Following this, 5 people were also confirmed to have food poisoning yesterday. Apart from talka curry, those who ate manjakuri curry, panni fry, pallatti fry, shrimp roast, fennel curry, kappa, appam and toddy experienced stomach ache, vomiting, diarrhea and fatigue at night.
Suspension of license
The license of Parip Tollayarachira toll shop was suspended due to food poisoning from Talkari. The shop was working under the name of Lekha and Joseph. The action was taken on the grounds that although the chemical test failed to detect any toxicity from the toddy, it was operated in an unsanitary environment. The licenses of 6 other shops of the same owners have also been suspended. After the hearing conducted by the Excise Commissioner, it will be decided whether to restore the license or cancel it completely. The chemical test conducted by the Excise proved that there is no toxicity in toddy. The license would have been revoked immediately if it had been found to exist.
Social Health Center has strengthened the inspection
Kumarakam ∙ Social Health Center Public Health Department conducted inspection in toddy shops and bars. The health inspector has issued a notice to suspend the cooking and distribution of food at an establishment operating in the first culvert, which was found to be cooking in unsanitary conditions without a license and medical fitness certificate for its employees. A notice under the Public Health Act was issued to the 2 establishments in Kumarakom. In the following days, a joint squad including the panchayat and food safety department will conduct inspection.
