DAY 1, WORLD CUP Open 23rd World Cup, Mexico beats South Africa in match with three red cards

    11:05 p.m

It’s over – an easy victory for one of the three hosts, Mexico, against South Africa (2:0) at the “Aztec” stadium at the opening of the 23rd World Cup.

Quiñones in the 9th minute and Raul Jimenez in the 67th minute scored in a match that the Mexicans finished with ten players, and the rival with nine players.

All three red cards were shown in the second half.

    11:00 p.m

The third red card at the opening of the World Cup and a new world record – after the two South Africans, the Mexican Cesar Montes, the defender of Lokomotiv Moscow, was also sent red.

    10:50 p.m

The second red card for the South Africans at the opening of the World Cup – the experienced, 36-year-old Temba Zwane was sent off, because he hit an opponent in the face with an open fist.

Referee Sampaio missed that, not the VAR room.

    10:34 p.m

A header and tears in the eyes of Raul Jimenez – Mexico leads 2:0 against South Africa.

In the 68th minute, Roberto Alvarado, the midfielder of Chivas Guadalajara, crossed the Fulham striker brilliantly.

    10:25 p.m

Captain of Japan, Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endo (33) retired from the World Cup due to an injury and definitively ended his representative career.

Endo struggled to recover from foot surgery in February. Has not made a single appearance for Liverpool this season.

He was replaced by Shuto Machino on the “blue samurai” list.

    10:21 p.m

It’s a non-working day in Mexico City, and the match is being watched in every corner of this megalopolis.

    10:18 p.m

South African Jaja Sitole, defender of Portuguese Tondela, knocked down Mexican Jimenez from behind, who was going for the goal alone – the first game and the first red card at the 23rd World Cup.

    9:50 p.m

Half time at the “Aztec” stadium – a great start for Mexico, then a weak rhythm, and then another burst and a great chance (post).

The “Sombreros” lead 1:0 against South Africa after the first 45 minutes at the opening of the 23rd World Cup.
