HOURS after attending a funeral for one of the people killed on April 19 along Lady Young Road, Morvant, a 49-year-old father was killed in front his nine-year-old son in the food court area of the Queen’s Park Savannah (QPS), Port of Spain, yesterday.
Around 5.30 p.m., Masud Prosper of Belle Eau Road, Belmont, parked his black Mitsubishi Lancer in the area behind the food court after picking up his son from football practice.
As the two sat in the car, a gunman approached and opened fire, hitting Prosper several times.
He was killed instantly.
His son was not hurt. Prosper’s common-law wife, Adisha Pierre, later arrived on the scene with her daughter. She said Prosper was a driver with the Ministry of Health and had been employed there for several years.
‘As I stand up here speaking to you, all I was thinking he would have been having a time playing football but they killed him in front of his own son. They killed him while he was picking up his child and since I have been with this man, I eh know him to be in any kind of violence and no gang-related activities,’ she said. ‘He goes to work, he minds his business, he comes home, and he sees about his son. He’s a single father out here trying his best and he didn’t deserve that at all.’
She said Prosper had attended the funeral for one of four people killed on the night of April 19 along Lady Young Road.
‘Why was my spouse targeted? This was a hit but why him? What did he do to deserve this?’ she asked.
She said she was sure his death had something to do with gang activity even though he was not involved in a gang.
‘I sure it’s as a result of that stupidness. He does nothing to nobody, he’s a nice man, and he is accustomed to coming out because that man had nothing to do with any gang-related activity,’ she said.
She said she had been warned by him on several occasions to be careful when entering Belle Eau Road, and he had even warned her several times to not visit due to gang violence.
The murder toll stood at 118 up to last night, while the toll on this date last year was 130.
