The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports has presented a new immersive proposal for rediscover the history of Ràdio Andorra at the Encamp issuing center. The project, promoted by Department of Cultural Heritagetransforms the visit to the space into an immersive and interactive experience through augmented reality.
Minister Mònica Bonell has emphasized that the initiative allows “recover that memory and give life back to spaces that are part of our shared history”. L‘Radio Andorra Memory Space allows you to learn about the trajectory of the station and the evolution of radio broadcasting in the Principality.
The tour includes the outside of the building, the room of the issuers and annexed spaces such as the rooms of generators, continuity and offices. The rest of the building, which currently houses the offices of Andorra Tourism, it is not part of the heritage project. During the months of July and August, the Memory Space will open on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 3.30pm to 6.30pm, and on Saturdays, from 10am to 1pm. Visits will be free with prior reservation
The director of the Department of Cultural Heritage, Isabel de la Partehas explained that the use of augmented reality responds to the desire to preserve the authenticity of the original spaces. The project has been developed by the Andorran company Blit. Design, art and technology.
The final schedule will be presented after the festivity of Meritxellwith the aim that from September theAndorra Radio Memory Space be fully integrated into the cultural offer of the country.
The initiative is part of the Strategic plan for culture 2030, which envisages enhancing and adapting the existing cultural infrastructures. The issuing center is an inventoried asset included in theGeneral Inventory of Cultural Heritage.
Radio Andorra started broadcasts in August 1939 and projected the country’s name around the world for decades until the broadcasts were discontinued definitely in 1981. Since 2009, the teams of Department of Cultural Heritage they have worked on the conservation and rehabilitation of the building, as well as on the research, cataloging and restoration of the fund linked to the station.
