Prague 2 plans to modernise the sports complex at TJ Sokol in Riegrovy sady. In addition to new sports and leisure areas for children and adults, the site is also set to undergo extensive revitalisation.
Prague 2 is planning a comprehensive modernisation of the sports complex at TJ Sokol in Riegrovy sady. The district council decided this week on the awarding of the public contract for the reconstruction of the facility. Construction work is scheduled for completion by August 2026.
According to the district authority, the planned costs for the revitalisation of the area amount to approximately 8.7 million crowns.
Mayor Jan Korseska (ODS) described the selection of the contractor as an important step towards transforming the sports complex into a modern leisure and sports area for all generations. The aim is to better support both organised sport and leisure activities for families with children. At the same time, the new facility is intended to complement the existing sports infrastructure of TJ Sokol Královské Vinohrady and create additional capacity. In particular, the existing workout area in the upper part of the park is currently heavily used.

The project includes the modernisation and expansion of the sports areas with a focus on versatile use. Plans include play and sports elements for various age groups, a small multifunctional pitch for football or basketball, and a small fitness zone intended mainly for parents.
The design of the new facility is also inspired by natural motifs. The play and sports elements are intended to reflect a forest theme in order to bring more nature into the urban environment. All planned surfaces will be permeable.

The modernisation forms part of a long-term development concept for Riegrovy sady, which district representatives presented during a public event in September last year. The new strategy envisages a sensitive revitalisation of the park and aims to create a balance between active use and the preservation of its natural and historical character.
Alongside the ongoing renovation of the U Draka children’s playground, the district administration is also planning to modernise the fitness area in the upper part of the park in the coming months. In addition, a retaining wall above the footpath near the TJ Sokol complex is due to be rebuilt, as structural engineers say it is now in a critical condition. The cost of this repair is estimated at around 2.2 million crowns.
