(KPL) Anouphab Vongnorkeo, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos, met on April 8 with Dao Boumony following his appointment as Cambodia’s Consul-General to Pakse in Champasak Province.
During the meeting, Anouphab welcomed the newly appointed consul-general and congratulated him on his new role. Dao Boumony will oversee Cambodia’s diplomatic interests in four southern Lao provinces: Champasak Province, Saravane Province, Attapeu Province, and Sekong Province. The Consulate-General is based in Pakse.
The deputy minister expressed confidence that Dao Boumony’s experience would help strengthen cooperation and contribute to development in southern Laos. He emphasized the importance of closer coordination between these provinces and neighboring Cambodian provinces, including Stung Treng Province, Ratanakiri Province, Mondulkiri Province, Kratie Province, and Preah Vihear Province.
Both sides highlighted the long-standing friendship between Laos and Cambodia, describing it as a relationship built on mutual trust and close cooperation. Officials noted that ties were elevated to a “comprehensive and long-term strategic partnership” in 2019.
Anouphab also commended border provinces from both countries for maintaining regular dialogue through annual bilateral meetings, which are held on a rotating basis.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the deputy minister expressed appreciation for Cambodia’s continued support to Laos and said he expects the consul-general to play an active role in strengthening cooperation and engaging Cambodian communities in southern Laos.
Dao Boumony thanked the Lao government for the warm welcome and said he is committed to working closely with Lao authorities to further enhance cooperation between the two countries for the benefit of their people.
