He National Congress will enter a legislative recess starting next June 23, reported the president of that branch of State, Tomás Zambrano.
The head of the Legislature clarified that the recess does not mean that Congress will be completely paralyzedsince deputies may be summoned at any time during the following weeks if an issue of emergency or national interest arises that requires the immediate attention of the plenary session.
Zambrano explained that the institution will maintain the capacity to respond to extraordinary situations that demand the discussion and approval of urgent initiatives for the country.
The announcement comes at a time when the National Congress has high-impact issues on its agenda, including the discussion of reforms to the electricity subsector, aimed at reorganizing the energy system and strengthening the financial sustainability of the National Electric Energy Company (Enee).
The electrical reform began its discussion this week in its first debate and must still go through two more debates to be approved by the legislative plenary session.
Congressional and Executive authorities have insisted that The initiative does not contemplate the privatization of Enee, but a reorganization process to reduce losses, improve service and reduce blackouts.
Although he Congress will go into recessZambrano left open the possibility of convening the deputies again if any initiative requires urgent processing.
“The deputies may be summoned at any time,” he indicated when referring to the functioning of the Legislature during that period.
