Civil Protection has activated an orange warning for high temperatures in the center and south of the country from midday this Monday, after the Meteorological Service warned of the arrival of a new mass of warm air. In the north of Andorra, the warning will be of yellow level. According to the Meteorological Service, the persistence of high pressure in the Mediterranean and a disturbance located in the Atlantic will drive a southwesterly flow that will favor the entry of warm air and an intrusion of Saharan dust. This configuration will cause a new rise in temperatures, with maximums that may exceed 34 degrees below 1,200 meters and occasionally reach 36 degrees in the warmest parts of the country. In the north, temperatures are expected to reach 30 degrees at around 1,500 meters of altitude.
Minimum temperatures will also remain high, especially in the urban areas most affected by the heat. In addition to the high temperatures, the Meteorological Service has activated a warning for southwest wind. The phenomenon will be noticed mainly in valleys oriented from south to north, with gusts that can reach 60 kilometers per hour in the valley floor and 80 kilometers per hour on the peaks.
Faced with this situation, Civil Protection has recalled the importance of following self-protection advice and recommends consulting weather forecast updates as the episode evolves.
