The Andorran Red Cross has activated an emergency device to support the French Red Cross in the face of the serious situation caused by the forest fires that affect the regions of the Gironde and the Landesas announced on social networks. The operative has been deployed since Sunday with a total of six convoys made up of first responders and members of the logistics teamwhich are moving up to Bordeaux to collaborate in the care of the special forces and the evacuated people and strengthen the reception devices skilled on the ground, as explained by the director of the entity, Jordi Ribes. Mobilization responds to one appeal of the French NGO and is expected to continue until thursday because it is during the week when there is a lack of staff and during the weekend volunteers are added, explained Ribes, adding that the support will be given until it is needed because “we will adapt to what is needed”.
The director of the entity has indicated that they were sent yesterday Sunday two logistics technicians to analyze the environment where they are to be installed and assess the needs there. And he has specified that the assistance entrusted to the Andorran Red Cross is essentially for serve the members of the special forces who work there on the fires and if necessary support will also be given to the evicted.
The resources that the Andorran entity has moved are assistance trailers to take care of feeding the special bodies and others that they have services, showers and toilets. They have also been sent two transport vehicleswhich are the small buses used to take users to the Red Cross day centers and the device will gradually expand and become more specific depending on the needs that is on the ground, said Ribes.
The mission is organized and coordinated by the Andorran Red Cross with the collaboration of Civil Protection of Andorrawhich has made available to the operative close to 300 camp beds to equip the temporary shelters intended for the population that is displaced from their homes due to the proximity of the fires. Jordi Ribes has defined as “chaotic” the situation that is being experienced in France because of these fires because the flames have advanced very rapidly and this has forced to modify the plans on the location of the support devices.
The NGO emphasizes that the action responds to principles of international cooperation and solidarity of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. And he emphasizes the desire to contribute to the response to an emergency that has forced tens of thousands of people to leave their homes.
