The results of the post-mortem examination conducted on the late Iveri Tuimasi have been handed over to his family and investigators from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), according to the Fiji Police Force.
Police said the next phase of the investigation will involve interviewing all individuals involved in Mr Tuimasi’s arrest following a drug raid in Dakuni, Beqa.
Police did not reveal the cause of death.
Once the interview process is completed, investigators will compile all statements, evidentiary documents, and reports before submitting the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for an independent legal review.
The Fiji Police Force said the review by the ODPP will determine the next course of action in the matter.
Mr Tuimasi died following his arrest during the operation in Beqa, prompting an ongoing police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police have not released details of the post-mortem findings.
