The student delegation of Panama won multiple gold medals in the disciplines of baseball, volleyball, swimming, athletics and chess, in addition to securing silver medals in futsal and softball during the final rounds of the Codicader Games 2026 that are celebrated in Honduras.
In team sports, the Urracá Institute of the province of Veraguas won two regional championships by winning the gold medal in the men’s baseball after defeating the Honduran representation 9-2 in the defining match, while the team from men’s indoor volleyball from the same team won the gold medal by beating the Costa Rican team.
For its part, Panamanian swimming closed the day with a total of 11 medals, divided into five gold, three silver and three bronze. The first individual places were obtained by Renata Requena in the 200-meter backstroke, Diego Castillo in the 50-meter freestyle and Suriel Leguizamo in the 50-meter butterfly, while the 4×100-meter freestyle relay teams, in both branches, won the titles of their respective events.
In the individual disciplines, the Chirican athlete Fergie Santa María achieved two gold medals and set records in the competition after registering 41.29 meters in the javelin throw and 13.79 meters in the shot put.
Likewise, in chess, Keytleen Chavarría Troya, 14 years old and representative of the IPT Abel Tapiero Miranda, won the Central American gold finishing undefeated in the five rounds of the classic modality, winning the individual gold medal.
Finally, the Panamanian delegation added silver medals after the setbacks of the Rubiano Institute in the final of the women’s futsal 4-0 against Costa Rica, from the Richard Neumann School in the male branch by falling 11-9 against Guatemala, and the Mariano Prado Araúz School of Coclé in the swomen’s soccer by losing the final match against Honduras.
