SIBU (April 21): Police have arrested a cement lorry driver following a fatal road accident at a traffic light intersection along Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce here this morning, which claimed the life of a motorcyclist.
Sibu District police chief ACP Azari Miskon confirmed the arrest, adding that an application to remand the suspect will be made on Wednesday (April 22) as investigations continue.
“The cement lorry involved in this morning’s fatal accident at the Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce traffic lights belongs to the same company linked to a previous fatal crash on Feb 10, 2026.
“The 50-year-old driver has been arrested and a remand application will be made on April 22,” he said when contacted on Tuesday.
In the incident which took place at 10am, the victim, identified as 39-year-old Benet Kawit, was killed after he is believed to have been dragged by the cement lorry while passing through the intersection.
Medical personnel from Sibu Hospital pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
