The Audiovisual Media Authority has fined a television station, after a statement calling for the burning of the headquarters of the Democratic Party, SHQUP, was broadcast during a televised debate. The case is related to the discussion about the destruction of the headquarters of the DP in Shkodër by the students, where one of those present said: “They did well, they set fire to it as well. They should also set fire to SHQUP here.”
The statement shown on the television screen was made public on the Instagram page of the president of the AMA, through an animated video. The television is not identified in these materials, but only the offense committed is evidenced.
The decision to fine television stations for inciting violence has caused various reactions in recent days, while there have been accusations that the measures taken by the AMA may violate freedom of speech.
Meanwhile, in the videos published on the mayor’s website, the Authority refers to law no. 97/2013, as amended, which prohibits broadcasts that justify violence and obliges the media to respect ethics and not broadcast programs that may incite criminal acts.
