It seems, that there is broad political support for the security and defense agreement concluded between Denmark, Greenland and the USA.
The agreement must go through an approval process in both Greenland’s parliament, Inatsisartut, and the Danish Parliament.
From parties such as Liberals, Conservatives, Enhedslisten and the Danish Democrats, for example, there is praise for the agreement.
It was signed on Tuesday by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S), Greenland’s head of government, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, and the President of the United States, Donald Trump. It happened in New York in connection with the UN General Assembly.
Trump in particular has on several occasions expressed a desire to own Greenland and justified it with the fact that it was about national and international security. It created a longer diplomatic crisis.
Venstre’s chairman, Troels Lund Poulsen, calls the agreement “an unusually good agreement”.
As Minister of Defense in the then SVM government, which to that extent handled the crisis with the Trump administration, Troels Lund Poulsen has played quite a significant role along the way to the agreement reached.
– It is a happy day for Greenland, Denmark, the Commonwealth and for the cooperation with the USA in the future, he told TV 2 on Tuesday.

When Mette Frederiksen held a press conference for the Danish press in New York, she sent, among other things, a special thank you to Troels Lund Poulsen for his efforts. Troels Lund Poulsen describes it as “beautiful” that the agreement has become a reality.
The Conservatives’ chairman, Mona Juul, has praised the agreement on Facebook.
– An agreement has been reached. And that is definitely good. Therefore, I would also like to praise the enormous political and diplomatic work that has preceded the agreement, she writes.
There is also support and praise from the chairman of the Danish Democrats, Inger Støjberg, who normally does not praise the government.
– It is an agreement we can be proud of, because it both emphasizes our sovereignty and cements NATO’s presence, she said on Tuesday to TV 2, referring to the defense alliance.
Enhedslisten, which is the government’s support party, also supports it.
– It is an agreement that does not change Danish sovereignty in any way. An agreement that Greenland signs with Denmark and the USA. They have stayed within the red lines, said the party’s spokesperson for Greenland, Trine Pertou Mach, to Jyllands-Posten on Tuesday.
