THE Morocco represents a particularly relevant market for carpoolingwith strong demand for intercity travel between major urban centers such as Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, Tangier and Fez. While economic activity and indoor mobility continue to develop, travelers are increasingly looking for affordable and flexible transport solutions for their medium and long distance journeys.
The platform BlaBlaCar connects private drivers having free places during intercity journeys planned with passengers heading to the same destination, thus allowing them to share travel expenses.
An economical alternative in a context of rising transport costs
This launch comes as transport-related spending continues to represent a significant portion of Moroccan household budgetparticularly for long-distance travel between the main cities of the Kingdom.
At the same time, Morocco is continuing significant investments in its transport infrastructurenotably through a plan to extend the railway network of 96 billion dirhams aimed at serving 43 cities and covering 87% of the population by 2040. In this context, BlaBlaCar offers a flexible mobility solution for journeys, times or destinations that are not always directly served by traditional public transport networks.
By allowing travelers making the same journey to share travel expensesthe platform offers a more accessible and flexible mobility solution, while helping to reduce congestion on some of the country’s busiest intercity routes.
Of the popular routes such as Casablanca–Rabat, Casablanca–Marrakech, Tangier–Casablanca and Fez–Casablanca should thus benefit from a greater number of opportunities for carpoolingallowing travelers to reduce their travel costs while optimizing the use of available spaces in vehicles.
THE carpooling directly addresses this issue. On average, each trip made via BlaBlaCar carries 2.1 passengers, allowing drivers to offset more than half of their fuel and toll expenses with cost sharing. The platform’s pricing tool automatically calculates a fair contribution for each passenger based on the local cost of fuel and the distance traveled, while ensuring that the amounts requested remain limited to cost sharing and do not generate any profit for the driver.
Between March and May 2026 alone, more than 600,000 new drivers have joined BlaBlaCar across the world, reflecting the growing interest in cost-sharing mobility solutions.
“Our platform offers a convenient solution for traveling between cities. In an increasingly digital society, where everyone seeks to save money while reducing their impact on the environment, BlaBlaCar facilitates intercity journeys by connecting drivers and passengers, allowing cost sharing and helping to limit the number of individual vehicles on the roads,” said Nicolas Brussonco-founder and CEO of BlaBlaCar.
How does BlaBlaCar work?
THE carpooling via BlaBlaCar is based on a simple three-step process:
- THE drivers publish their planned journey — starting point, destination, date, number of places available and requested contribution — on the BlaBlaCar application (available free on iOS and Android) or on the platform’s website.
- THE passengers search for a journey corresponding to their destination and reserve their place directly via the platform.
- Drivers and passengers then travel together, sharing fuel and toll costs.
A trusted community of 30 million active carpoolers each year
Since its creation in France in 2006, the success of BlaBlaCar relies on the trust of its community. The platform integrates several features designed to make every journey safer and more reliable:
- Verified Profiles : Members can verify their identity, phone number, and email address to build trust within the community and credibility of their profile.
- Ratings and reviews : after each journey, drivers and passengers are invited to evaluate their experience. Users can view a member’s full review history before confirming a booking.
- Customer service and content moderation : a dedicated team ensures the proper functioning of the platform, compliance with community rules and the maintenance of a safe environment for all users.
