A copilot from Blue Linhas Aéreas fell ill during a flight on Wednesday night (3). The commander requested an emergency landing of the aircraft at Viracopos International Airport, in Campinasin interior of São Paulo.
The plane was on its way to Curitibain Paranáfrom where it took off at 8:50 pm, to the city of Campinas, where it landed at 9:42 pm.
In a statement, the airport reported that the emergency was requested due to the copilot having a seizure. “The runway was reserved at 9:27 pm for teams to deal with the incident,” he said.
“After accessing the aircraft, the concessionaire’s medical team reported that the co-pilot’s condition was stable. However, he was taken to the Viracopos outpatient clinic for medical assessments”, added the airport administration.
The company stated that “the professional received support from a doctor who was on board the aircraft at the time of the incident.” “The flight continued normally and the plane landed in Viracopos in complete safety”, reinforced the company.

A July 25, 2025, a Azul flight that had departed from Portugal had to be diverted to Recife due to a medical emergency involving a pilot.
The Airbus A330-900 landed at Gilberto Freyre International Airport, in the capital of Pernambuco, at 5pm.
The aircraft, registered PR-ANX, had departed from the city of Porto, bound for Viracopos International Airport.
The emergency was detected when the plane was flying over the Fortaleza region. The flight was then diverted to Recife.
The pilot was treated for a suspected stroke.
At the time, in a statement, Azul confirmed that the flight had to be changed to Recife due to the need for medical support for one of the crew members, without informing who it was and what the problem was. After ground assistance, the aircraft took off to its final destination.
A Latam airline pilot died on August 15, 2023 after feeling ill during a commercial flight between Miami, United Statesand Santiagoin Chile. The plane made an emergency landing in Panama for medical care, but the commander did not survive.
The cause of death and the pilot’s identity were not revealed. The professional had 25 years of experience.
“The company reinforces that during the flight all safety protocols were followed to safeguard the pilot’s life, however, after landing and after receiving care on the ground, he unfortunately passed away,” said Latam, in a statement, at the time.
