Authorities in Nevis have provided further clarification surrounding the death of 52-year-old Gregory Browne of Prospect, whose body was discovered at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Monday, May 26, in the Bath Village area near the Nevis Hot Springs.
Following the discovery, the matter was referred for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. Authorities have since confirmed that drowning was identified as the official cause of death, with an underlying medical episode contributing to the incident.
According to a police spokesperson, the autopsy revealed that Browne, who suffered from epilepsy, experienced a seizure before entering the water. Water found in his lungs confirmed drowning as the immediate cause of death, while investigators concluded that the seizure caused him to fall into the water.
Officials described the incident as a tragic accident, noting that Browne’s medical condition played a significant role in the sequence of events that led to his death.
The findings bring closure to the investigation launched after Browne’s body was discovered in the lower hot bath below the roofed hot spring facility in Bath Village.
Authorities have extended condolences to Browne’s family and loved ones as they continue to mourn his passing.
