Australia qualified on Thursday for the round of 32 of the 2026 Football World Cup, by drawing 0-0 with Paraguay, in a match on the third round of Group D, played in Santa Clara, in the United States.
The Oceania team, present in the ‘eighth’ in 2006 and 2022, was in second place in the group, while Paraguay, which reached the ‘fourth’ in 2010 and the ‘eighth’ in 1986, 1998 and 2002, should qualify as one of the eight best third parties.
The group was won by the United States, despite a 3-2 defeat against already eliminated Turkey, with Auston Trusty (three minutes) and Sebastian Berhalter (49) scoring for the co-hosts and Arda Güler (10), Baris Yilmaz (31) and Kaan Ayhan (90+8) for the Turks.
