Windhoek (Namibia), April 29, 2026 (SPS) – Yesterday, Tuesday, at the Presidential Palace in the capital, Windhoek, Her Excellency Ms. Nitumbo Nandy-Ndayitwah, President of the Republic of Namibia, received Mr. Abiy Bachrai Al-Bashir, Special Adviser to the President of the Republic in charge of natural resources and legal issues, in his capacity as the Special Envoy of the President of the Republic, the Secretary-General of the Front, Mr. Ibrahim Ghali.
Abi Bashraya Al-Bashir conveyed to the Namibian leader a special message from her Sahrawi brother, which included an update on the latest developments in the Sahrawi issue and an affirmation of the strength of bilateral relations between the two countries and the common desire to develop them and push them to new heights.
The Special Advisor to the Sahrawi President was accompanied by the Ambassador of the Sahrawi Republic accredited to the Republic of Namibia, Mr. Hamdi Mayara.
The Namibian presidency published a press statement about the meeting, which included the following: “In confirmation of Namibia’s solidarity with the people of Western Sahara, Her Excellency President Nitumbo Nandi-Ndayetwah received today Mr. Abiy Bachrai, Special Envoy and Advisor to His Excellency President Ibrahim Ghali, President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, on a courtesy visit to the presidential headquarters.
Speaking of her personal connection to Western Sahara, the President recalled Namibia’s historical support and the deep sense of solidarity that has been established through direct interaction with the Sahrawi people. She referred to the steadfastness, determination, and unity that she witnessed during her previous visit as Minister of International Relations, and described that experience as inspiring and rich with lessons in the context of the broader narrative of Africa’s liberation.
President Nandy-Ndayetwah welcomed the visit of the Special Envoy, considering it a new confirmation of the strength of bilateral relations between the two countries, and expressed her appreciation for the continued exchange of views on developments related to the United Nations-led decolonization process.
For his part, Mr. Boucheraya conveyed the deep gratitude of President Ibrahim Ghali and the Sahrawi people to Namibia for its steadfast support, considering that this position reflects the country’s firm commitment to the core values of African unity, justice, and the liberation of all peoples.
He also briefed the President on the latest developments related to Western Sahara, stressing the strength of the relations between the two countries. (SPA)
