Midrand (South Africa), May 2, 2026 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Republic achieved a well-deserved and resounding victory by defeating Morocco in the elections for the position of rapporteur of the provisional Bureau for North Africa.
Following an election marked by strong competition between the Sahrawi Republic and Morocco for the rapporteur position, the Sahrawi Republic won with 17 votes against 12 for Morocco.
Sahrawi MP Saeed Brahim Joumani will hold this position, representing the Sahrawi Republic at the Pan-African Parliament (PAP).
Meanwhile, Tunisia will assume the presidency for North African, while Mauritania will serve as vice-president.
Mauritania was also elected to the committee responsible for overseeing the election of the Parliament’s president and vice-presidents.
It is worth noting that Algeria, represented by Council of the Nation member Fateh Boutbig, will assume the presidency of the Pan-African Parliament for the 2026–2029 term.
This victory of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) within the PAP strengthens the country’s position on the international diplomatic stage and demonstrates that the Sahrawi state is an irreversible reality at both regional and international levels.
