The United States and Iran yesterday signed an initial peace agreement that calls for an end to the war and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. Axios reports.
Trump signed a copy of the US-Iran deal at the Palace of Versailles in France, concluding his visit to the G7 summit. Then the US sent a photo of the signed agreement to the Iranians, an American official said. The document was then signed by the Iranian president, Massoud Pezeshkian.

The deal commits the US and Iran to a final agreement within 60 days.
The signing was originally planned for Friday in Switzerland, but a diplomat from a brokering country and another source familiar with the process said there had been talks to sign and implement the deal earlier.
The diplomatic source stated that the acceleration of the process was related to the goal of reopening the Strait of Hormuz before Friday, as both sides agreed on the issue.
Another factor could have been political pressure on the White House to release the text of the memorandum. The source claimed that Iran requested that the text not be published before the official signing and that the White House was not responding to political pressure.
French President Emmanuel Macron posted a video on the X platform of Trump signing the document during a dinner in Versailles.
In the video, Trump can be heard saying as he signs, “It wasn’t easy, I can tell you that.”
The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, said that the leaders of the United States and Iran had signed the memorandum and that as a first step, Iran would immediately open the Strait of Hormuz, and the United States would immediately lift the naval blockade.
A meeting between the US and Iranian delegations, led by Vice President Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, is still scheduled to take place on Friday in Switzerland.
They are to discuss the start of negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program.
