Babylon – Kazem Bahiya
Artist Samar Al-Zaidi spoke about her constant love for the art of drawing, telling Al-Zaman: “For me, there is no life without art. It is the world I seek refuge in to escape from the noise of the earth and the chaos of life.” She added that when she holds her brush, she feels as if all this chaos is unfolding in her mind.
She confirms that her passion for drawing is not a coincidence, but rather an extension of her father. Al-Zaidi says, “I am deaf and mute. In fact, my passion for drawing began around the age of adolescence. I acquired this passion and love of experience through my father, the visual artist Zaid Al-Zaidi, as he was one of the first fans and supporters of my talent. I started drawing with watercolors in 2015, and I did not study in any art school or college.”
Al-Zaidi demonstrated her special passion for the style of high transparency and sometimes bold colors to represent the colors of nature in all its seasons and the method of mixing colors with a transparent and distinctive technique.
As for the secret of her passion for drawing watercolors over others, she said (Honestly, because watercolors for me are the easy and unavoidable despite its simplicity and transparency, but it was a great challenge for me when I started it. It was just curiosity inside me to experiment, but I did not know how much fun it really is in drawing watercolors. What distinguishes it from others is the pleasure during the drawing journey more than others, and I believe that every artist has his own story in this life and the challenges and difficulties he faces during his career).
Great effect
She explained that she was influenced by following and learning about the works of many pioneering artists, whether from Iraq or abroad, and one of the artists who had a great influence on her psyche and whom she considers her role model is her father, the artist Zaid Al-Zaidi, the artist Faiq Hassan, and others from the world. She very much admires the ideas and method of drawing of the artists (Joseph Zbukvic), (David Hockney), (John Singer Sargent) and many artists who had a great imprint in the world of art.
