Ashraf Hakimi appeals the decision to try him on charges of rape
After the Court of Appeal upheld his referral to trial on charges of rape, Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi filed an appeal before the French Court of Cassation.
The Court of Appeal confirmed on June 19 that the Moroccan national team and Paris Saint-Germain player would be tried before a criminal court on charges of rape in 2023, a charge he repeatedly denied.
The decision was issued at a time when Commander Hakimi, 27 years old, is leading the Moroccan national team in the World Cup.
The “Atlas Lions” succeeded in reaching the round of 32 by occupying second place in the third group with 7 points on goal difference from leaders Brazil.
Shortly after the Versailles Court of Appeal ruling, Hakimi wrote on X that “I have been waiting for this trial from the beginning. Finally I can speak.”
In February 2023, a then 24-year-old woman reported to police in the Val-de-Marne region southeast of Paris that Hakimi had raped her.
A police source said at the time that the plaintiff said that she met Hakimi in January 2023 via Instagram, and went to his house in a taxi requested by the player.
She claimed that Hakimi kissed her, touched her without her consent, and then raped her.
Rachel Flor Pardo, the plaintiff’s lawyer, said, “All rulings in this case were in favor of the plaintiff. She will fight until the end to achieve justice.”
