San Pedro Sula.
Two days after the global suspension of operations of Spirit Airlinesthe Honduran Civil Aeronautics Agency (AHAC) reported that the country’s airports continue to operate normally, without affecting the flow of passengers.
The institution indicated that it maintains a permanent presence of airport facilitation inspectors in the terminals, who have not reported incidents during the supervision days.
In addition, he noted that staff continue to provide direct attention to travelers, with guidance and information at each airport.
The AHAC explained that the surveillance and monitoring protocols remain active in accordance with current regulations, with the objective of guaranteeing the operation of the airport system and customer service.
However, its statement did not address possible measures for passengers affected by the Spirit Airlines suspension, especially regarding ticket recovery or refunds.
Spirit Closure
The decision of Spirit Airlines surprised by announcing on Friday that it was ceasing operations after a $500 million government bailout deal in the United States failed.
In January 2024, a federal judge had also blocked a $3.8 billion purchase offer, believing that the merger would reduce competition and raise rates for users.
The airline, based in Florida, operated routes between the United States, the Caribbean and several Latin American destinations, including Honduras, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
