The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, held a video call with the Dominican basketball star Karl-Anthony Towns Cruz to congratulate him on the historic conquest of the NBA championship with his New York Knicks.
The president made the contact from his office in the National Palace, in a gesture of recognition of the outstanding achievement achieved by Towns Cruz, who reconfirmed that it is a source of pride for all Dominicans.
During the conversation, the president expressed his congratulations to the player for his dedication, discipline and extraordinary career in professional basketball, highlighting the positive impact that his success has on Dominican youth.
For his part, Towns Cruz thanked the head of state for his words and shared impressions about the experience of winning the NBA title, as well as the responsibility he feels to represent the Dominican Republic on the highest sporting stages in the world.
Among the topics discussed during the video call was the player’s intention to bring the emblematic Larry O’Brien Trophy, symbol of the NBA championship, to the country to share it with the Dominican people and celebrate with the fans the historic achievement achieved last Saturday by the Knicks, a squad that had last won in 1973.
Towns Cruz recorded the best postseason of his career with numbers that make it clear that he is one of the most complete big men in the NBA. He finished these playoffs averaging 15.9 points, 10.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.3 steals in 30.4 minutes of action while shooting 45.6% from the three-point arc. His plus-minus of +258 was his highest in a full postseason.
