Nevertheless, Nikol Pashinyan decided to deliver a message on the occasion of the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. Even better, he could have sent no message at all, instead thanking Aliyev, who on April 24 decided to allow 5 wagons of grain (hopefully not fodder) to be imported into Armenia through his territory.
Now, about what hidden messages were there in Nikol Pashinyan’s speech?
1. “The Great Genocide, among others, is a consequence of the practice of involving the Armenian people in international intrigues.” It is clear, isn’t it, that the Ottoman Empire itself did not involve its subjects in international conspiracies, others did. And now Nikol Pashinyan publicly declares that the Armenian Genocide happened precisely because of that “practice of internalization”, that is, the Turks are not particularly guilty, the main culprit is those “others”.
This, by the way, is exactly what Turkey’s official propaganda has been repeating for more than a century.
2. “The forces that advocate for the return of the lost homeland, the restoration of historical borders and justice, put the Republic of Armenia on the rails of the San Stefano Conference of 1878, the inevitable last stop of which is the loss of statehood and homeland, because everyone in the world has their own history, everyone has their own justice, everyone has their lost homeland.”
The key here is the wording “everyone has his own justice”. What Nikol Pashinyan said is this: “Now, in our opinion, it was unfair that the Turks massacred one and a half million Armenians, but in their opinion, it was good and fair”, that is, he puts an equal sign between the demand to accept the fact of the Genocide and Turkish denial. By the way, the Turks do not put a sign of equality and are not satisfied with just denying, they declare that “on the contrary, Armenians committed genocide on us”, and in Igdir they erected a huge monument “in memory of the Turks subjected to genocide by Armenians”.
