Today, Thursday, the Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry, Wassim Kouedri, supervised the inauguration of two new production units in the state of Oran, within the framework of strengthening the path of health sovereignty in Algeria.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Pharmaceutical Industry, the first unit specializes in manufacturing monoclonal antibodies, which are advanced biological medicines used to treat several diseases, most notably cancer. This project was completed by Orion Lab laboratories, and is considered a precedent at the national level in the field of the pharmaceutical industry, and the second of its kind on the level of the African continent.
The Minister stressed that this achievement “represents a historic milestone in the development of the pharmaceutical industry in Algeria, and aims to localize advanced biotechnology and ensure the provision of innovative treatments for cancer patients within the country, in a way that enhances national health sovereignty.”
During the visit, the Minister and the accompanying delegation inspected the various facilities of the new unit, and received explanations about the project, which falls within a partnership between Orion Lab and one of the leading international laboratories in this field.
The second unit, affiliated with the Saidal Public Complex, specializes in manufacturing rapid diagnostic kits, as part of “the state’s efforts to improve patient care by promoting early and accurate diagnosis.”
These kits will be produced for human use, and include detection of types of cancer, anti-inflammatories, as well as rapid detection of various types of drugs. It will also be used in the agricultural field to diagnose plant diseases, and in the veterinary field.
The Minister stressed that “the ‘Sidal’ complex has achieved important progress in the field of immunotherapy, which qualifies it to produce this generation of innovative medicines with a complete manufacturing process before the end of the year, in a way that enhances national pharmaceutical sovereignty.”
The Minister concluded by stressing that these projects “highlight that the choice of health sovereignty was not a passing slogan, but rather a continuous path that translates project after project, and one production unit after another, in service to citizens, enhancing national health security, and consolidating Algeria’s position as a rising pole in the pharmaceutical industry at the national and regional levels.”
