Firefighters carrying out overhaul works at the plywood processing factory.
BINTULU (April 14): A plywood processing factory in Tanjong Kidurong was extensively damaged in a fire this afternoon.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received an emergency call at 4.23pm before deploying firefighters to the scene.
The blaze involved stacks of plywood, with about 80 per cent of the materials destroyed and approximately 30 per cent of the factory structure affected.
“The fire was brought under control at 5.30pm, successfully preventing it from spreading further,” Bomba said.
Extinguishing operations were carried out using both offensive and defensive methods, with water supplied from nearby hydrants and a fire tanker via relay pumping over a distance of about 500 feet.
A portable pump was also deployed to maintain a continuous water supply during the operation.
