Colombian sports will say goodbye to the Caldense doctor this Saturday Carlos Alberto Osoriowho died this Friday in Manizales at the age of 76 years.
Osorio was a very important figure in the country, as he was part of the first Colombian cycling expeditions in European territory with the team Varta-Coffee from Colombia.

Cycling was the sport that made him vibrate, but he also ventured into sports leadership.
The doctor was president of the Caldense Cycling League in the 1980s and worked for 36 years with the Once Caldas. He led the medical department of the team that won the Copa Libertadores de América title in 2004.

Doctor Osorio died at his residence in Manizales. He was married to Luz Helena, now deceased, and had two children: Claudio and Susana.
“The history of doctor Carlos Alberto Osorio Duque in sports began in Aranzazuwhile still a medical student. He spent the rural year as a student at the University of Caldas and became interested in helping cyclists in the region,” stated the newspaper La Patria de Manizales.
“He had left his native Marseille (Risaralda) behind. There he was born in the home that Don Jaime and Mrs. María del Carmen. He was the second in the family, after Pastora Beatriz, and ahead of Gloria Elena, Isabel Cristina, Jorge Hernán, Diana and Ana María,” the media reported.

Osorio made good friends with Eusebio Unzué, manager of the Movistar team, whom he accompanied in the last editions of the Tour Colombia.
“A great personal and team friend is leaving. And, although I was lucky enough to be able to say goodbye to him, I didn’t think it would happen so quickly. We met at our debut in the 1983 Tour de France, when Carlos was in charge of medical responsibility for the Colombian team that was also participating in the Tour for the first time,” said Unzué.
In addition, Osorio was a member of the national cycling and soccer teams that participated in all the competitions of the Olympic cycle: South American, Pan American, Central American, Olympic and World Games.

Half of his life was dedicated to Once Caldas. He worked there for 36 years and was one of the protagonists of the Copa Libertadores de América title in 2004. He remained at the club until 2011, according to the Caldense newspaper.
