If you have little time, we will summarize this misinformation about Juan Guaidó in a few minutes:
- The audiovisual material where Juan Guaidó is rebuked at the University of Portland circulates as if it were from April 2026, but the event really occurred in August 2024.
- The interruption was not spontaneous either, it was organized by the Portland Student Association and carried out by Maria Denman, an activist linked to political pressure groups.
- Accounts with millions of followers, like @noticiasvenezueladicethey recycled the old material without verifying the original date, making the video go viral again to deceive the audience.
The former opposition deputy to the National Assembly, Juan Guaidó, exiled in the United States, after the defunct interim government, has been the target of misinformation after his departure from Venezuela.
Our unit has verified on several occasions different false information focused on Guaidó, the former president of the National Assembly. An example is when he was falsely attributed with the statement that the loss of human life was an “investment in the future” or when it was pointed out that the politician He fled to Spain and was wanted by Interpol and the FBI.
One of the latest hoaxes that spreads through social networks about Guaidó, which reached our chatbot La Tía del WhatsAppused to counteract the effects of misinformation, which is also in Telegramwas published on April 4, 2026 and indicates that the political leader had been confronted during an activity at the University of Portland, Oregon, in USA., but although Guaidó was rebuked, the video dates back to 2024 and not 2026, as the misinformers point out.
This check is the result of rigorous adherence to our verification methodology, after analysis and contrast with the available evidence and does not represent opinions or value judgments, as established in our Neutrality and Nonpartisanship Policyin which we warn of the limitations to the exercise of journalism in Venezuela. So we tell you the details.
The misinformation
The decontextualized video was published by the social network user Instagram @noticiasvenezueladice and was published on April 4, 2026. In the description the audiovisual indicates that “Student from a university in Oregon, USA, rebukes Juan Guaidó: “You are a thief, where is the money you stole from all Venezuelans?” (+Video)”, it is read.
“You are a thief. Where is the money that you stole from all Venezuelans?” he rebuked him. “You are a traitor, you are a disgrace. You should be ashamed Juan (…) where is the money from when you sold CITGO to the US Government? Juan, where is the money?” said the young woman when interrupting Guaidó’s speech in 2024.
Scope of disinforming video and account details
The misinforming video reached 47,700 likes, 12,400 shares, 3,249 reposts and 5,275 comments, in which some users point out that the audiovisual dates back to 2024.
For its part, Noticias Venezuela Dice, the account that redistributed the video, was created in 2014 and has 3.2 million followers. It is an account that is described as an information medium that is described as “keeping you informed and entertained with the most relevant news from Venezuela and the world,” according to its description.
This account has uploaded 30,900 publications to its feed, most of them are information published in other media and viral videos from social networks.
It is not an account that creates original content, but rather replicates from other sources without verification. For example, in this casecredibility is given without context, such as the statement by the president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, when describing El Salvador as the safest country in Latin America. However, this statement contrasts with the results of Global Peace Index 2025, where the Central American country ranked 103 out of 163 nations evaluated, with a score of 2,136/5.

In this post The account states that the new Minister of Defense, Gustavo González López, had ordered the elimination of all political slogans from the National Armed Forces, but no official source has stated that this instruction was actually given. On the contrary, on the Instagram account of the Ministry of Defense, several videos have been uploaded of soldiers and commanders shouting the slogans during the first week of April, such as here and here.
What happened in 2024 when they rebuked Guaidó
Our colleagues at Cazadores de Fake News (CFN), on August 20, 2024, explained in this notewhich occurred during the event in which Guaidó participated at the University of Portland.
During the conference on faith and politics, Maria Denman interrupted Guaidó’s presentation with accusations about the management of Venezuelan assets abroad. The event staff evicted the woman from the venue while she continued screaming. Profiles on social networks and media linked to the Maduro government broadcast the audiovisual record of the event under the premise of a student-citizen protest, such as Globovisión, as you can see here and also The Universal.
Subsequently, according to the Fake News Cazadores article, Guaidó published evidence about the planning of the incident by the Portland Student Association, an organization that called for the rejection of his visit through posters and social networks.
It was not spontaneous
The Canary Mission portal identifies Maria Denman as an activist linked to organizations that promote boycotts against Israel and support for Hamas. Researcher Iria Puyosa pointed out this episode as an information operation that uses social media actors and pressure groups to influence foreign perceptions of the Venezuelan political conflict.
The CFN team pointed out that the Venezuelan state communication apparatus replicates these influence tactics by amplifying content generated by organizations such as Code Pink. This group carried out similar actions in 2023 during an event at the Wilson Center and participated in the takeover of the Venezuelan Embassy in Washington in 2019.
Furthermore, in 2026 they visited Venezuela again, as we describe in this check in which we examined claims that pictures of Maduro, Chávez and Bolívar had been removed from public offices, but are seen in several of the images of Code Pink activists in the Foreign Ministry.
Misinformation about Guaidó
As we explained at the beginning of this verification, this is not the first time that Guaidó has been the subject of disinformation. In Cocuyo Chequea, for example, we reported that, through digital manipulation, it was pointed out that Mr. Rafael Araujo, popularly known as the “parrot lord,” had criticized Guaidó and María Corina Machado in one of his creative protests.
Herein note May 2024, we verified how the dissemination of an audio generated with artificial intelligence simulated a phone call between Juan Guaidó and Edmundo González, who at that time was a presidential candidate, to misinform about the electoral campaign. The material emerged in anonymous accounts in favor of the ruling party and reached virality in media such as Globovisión and El Universal.
Verdict
Based on our verification methodology We can point out that the video about the Juan Guaidó incident at the University of Portland circulates in a decontextualized way. Although the images are real, they do not correspond to an event from April 2026, but rather they originally occurred in August 2024.
The recent dissemination by accounts with high reach, such as @noticiasvenezueladice, omits that the interruption was an act planned by activists and not a spontaneous student demonstration. Therefore, we classify as false that this fact is recent.
