A total of $69,600 has been released to Loto Taumafai School for children with disabilities this week. This was confirmed by the principal of the school, Sharon Shuren, to Samoa Global.

The principal said that classes for children with disabilities officially resumed on Monday this week, with some conditions that parents must abide by.
“Sa fono le Komiti Faafoe ma le PTA o le tuualalo sa ave i matua e momoli mai i le aoga ma toe piki fanau aoga, ia ma amata totogi mai resitala tuua a alo ma fanau sei fesoasoani i le toe tau amataina o le aoga mo lenei taimi.”
She added that the Faleata 3 District Development Office assisted them with $10,000 to help with teachers’ salaries.

Loto Taumafai has remained closed since February due to financial constraints, as it is a non-government school. Therefore, it relies heavily on funds from the One Government Grant, as well as fundraising efforts, to secure funding to keep the school operational.
A total of 107 students attend Loto Taumafai School, with more than 10 new enrolments currently sitting on Ms Shuren’s desk despite the challenges faced by the school.
Loto Taumafai is one of only two schools that cater to children with disabilities.
