The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Labour (MCIL) acknowledges the successful completion of a donation of trade measurement equipment from the Pacific Island Forum Secretariat (PIFS) through the Pacific Quality Infrastructure (PQI) Initiative.
The donated equipment will strengthen Samoa’s legal metrology work and enhance the accuracy, reliability and consistency of trade measurements across the country. All equipment was supplied with calibration certificates issued by accredited laboratories by the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA).
The donation was delivered in two (2) phases. The first shipment received in May 2024, included precision weight sets, stainless steel weights, balances and cast-iron rectangular weights. The second and final shipment received in May 2026, included a 200-litre volumetric prover and a 15-litre twin trolley volumetric prover.
As the agency responsible for administering the Metrology Act 2015, MCIL notes that access to these resources is essential for ensuring precision, accuracy and quality assurance in the verification of weighing equipment as well as calibration services, ultimately benefiting both consumers and businesses across Samoa.
The Honourable Minister Mr. Fata Ryan Schuster, expressed sincere appreciation to the Pacific Islands
Forum Secretariat and partners under the PQI Initiative for their continued support. The Minister acknowledged that this assistance will strengthen the Ministry’s work and contribute significantly to Samoa’s national efforts to build technical capacity and support sustainable economic development.
