After years of anticipation, leaks and reports indicate that Apple is finally preparing to enter the market Foldable phones This year, it will launch its upcoming iPhone Fold phone, in a move that is expected to represent one of the biggest transformations in the company’s history since the launch of the first iPhone in 2007.
Although there has been no official confirmation from Apple yet, a wave of leaks over the past months have begun to shape the features of the expected device, amid expectations that the phone will also bear the name “iPhone Ultra” to indicate its importance within the company’s strategy.
This step comes at a remarkable time, after Apple celebrated its 50th anniversary, and with internal preparations for a possible transitional phase in executive leadership, which reinforces speculation that the new phone may be the beginning of a new generation of the company’s products.
A design closer to the book. Leaks indicate that the iPhone Fold will adopt a “book”-shaped design, with slightly different aspect ratios from competitors such as the Galaxy Z Fold series, as it is expected to be slightly wider when opened, and relatively shorter, giving it a shape closer to a passport.
It is also expected that Apple will rely on a hinge made of “liquid metal”, with the aim of enhancing durability, which is an essential element in the foldable phone category. On the back, the device may come with a dual camera unit similar to the design of some modern iPhone models.
The phone is expected to be available in only two colors: black and silver.
Screens with a size similar to the iPad Mini. When you open the device, reports indicate that the experience will come close to using the iPad Mini, with an internal screen of 7.8 inches, and an external screen of 5.5 inches, both with OLED technology from Samsung.
Leaks vary regarding thickness, as the thickness of the device is likely to reach about 9.23 mm when folded, making it one of the thinnest foldable phones on the market.
One of the most notable potential changes is the absence of the Face ID feature, relying instead on a side fingerprint Touch IDin addition to front cameras perforated in the screens instead of the traditional notch.
Cameras: At the imaging level, expectations indicate a dual rear camera system with a resolution of 48 megapixels for the main lens, and 48 megapixels for the wide lens, without a telephoto lens.
The internal screen may also contain a hidden camera under the screen, or an alternative solution with a hole-punch camera with a lower resolution, with the possibility of using 18-megapixel front cameras.
Performance and battery The phone is expected to work with Apple’s new A20 Pro chip, with 2nm manufacturing technology, which enhances performance and energy efficiency compared to previous generations.
It is also expected to come with 12 GB of RAM and a storage capacity of up to 1 TB, making it primarily aimed at multi-use tasks and advanced work on the screen.
As for the battery, its capacity may range between 5400 and 5800 mAh, making it the largest in the history of iPhones so far, with expectations that only an eSIM chip will be used without a traditional SIM port.
The phone is also expected to support new artificial intelligence features via an upgraded version of the Siri voice assistant within the iOS 27 update.
Launch date and price Expectations indicate that the iPhone Fold will be announced in September 2026, in conjunction with the iPhone 18 Pro series, during the first expected major launch event led by the company’s new management.
As for the price, it is likely to fall within the very luxury category, as leaks indicate a price of approximately 2,400 US dollars, equivalent to approximately 225,000 Egyptian pounds, making it one of the most expensive iPhones ever.
Thus, it seems that Apple is preparing to enter a completely new phase in the smartphone market, with a device that aims not only to compete, but to redefine the concept of the phone itself.
